Meeting unreal people
In July, the BBC morning news programme did a short feature on Facebook.
A psychologist was concerned that people were spending time in a compelling "virtual world" rather than interacting with people in the "real" world.
Frank taped the segment for me to see how long it'd take before I started shouting at the TV.
I'm sure Facebook had something to do with my getting an invite to a birthday party this summer. I met some smart and funny people, including a young man with whom I had Staffordshire University in common.
I explained that the university was a Polytechnic when I did my Masters there, over twenty years ago. He smiled, looking down at me (literally: he was tall and I am short) and said "you know, I wasn't born then."
Lovely.
